Fishing Tackle Organization
Inspired by the same things that inspire most of my work, fishing.
The organizer is designed to be separate wooden trays with customizable slats inside that allow specific size containers to be made. The overall shape is taken from a fish spine, having a center spine with ribs that the shelves, with specific grooves cut into the sides, will slide into, all standing on a “fish tail” style pedestal.
This at-home organizer is the perfect place to store your tackle before packing the bag for the weekend. Multiple trays and a compact design allow this unit to store many different pieces of fishing gear while still being a piece of refined furniture.
After multiple rounds of modeling and rendering, the final form was on point and it was time to dive into real materials.
I decided to use cherry wood for the trays, it was cut into lengths, planed, the corners were cut at 45 degrees, a channel cut for a plywood bottom and soon enough, I had six trays. The more intensive part of the process was bending the metal frame, originally planning for .25” thick steel, quickly changed to .125” thick so I could manage the bends without industrial strength.
Once the frame was bent into place and the sides of the trays had been milled out, it was time to assemble and test fit. The last step was finishing, a couple quick coats of poly and the organizer is complete, ready to store as much tackle as it can hold.
